Congressional Malfeasance

Our nation is in trouble. We are in a state of perpetual war, targeted assassinations are accepted foreign policy, Kill Lists are being institutionalized, habeas corpus and legal recourse are ignored not only for perceived terrorists but for American citizens, and Congress does nothing to check this. At home, our Constitutional safeguards are being eliminated one by one—the NDAA; legislation that makes it a crime to demonstrate on federal property; warrantless and all-inclusive surveillance; the militarization of every agency in government; and a president who believes his decisions overrides domestic, international and constitutional law—and Congress approves these unconstitutional acts of tyranny. The maldistribution of wealth is appalling, the system is rigged in favor of the rich (for the 3 of you, the economy is just fine thank you), jobs are shipped offshore, the social safety net is being shredded and all Congress can discuss is “austerity” which robs from the poor to line the pockets of the rich. Our food is genetically modified, our health care system is a national disgrace, the planet is warming and Congress does nothing but chant “Drill Baby Drill.” I have written many letters to the president and received responses, all of which alarm me even more since they are nothing but spin, lies and PR, filled with delusional wonder at the great things the Obama Administration has done and will continue to do. The president believes his wars are “just” and “smart” and we are following his plan to “complete the mission” in Afghanistan while even his generals say that as soon as we leave, the Afghan Army will collapse as will the corrupt Karzai regime and the Taliban will take over; nothing changed from 2001 except for the lives lost, the trillions wasted and the hatred engendered for generations to come. All this while Congress fails to check the Executive’s unbridled power grab and the destruction of our democracy. You are all complicit, interested only in the perceived power you have, disdainful, dismissive, of any voice but the rich and powerful who fill your campaign coffers and line your pockets. From today forward, all the letters I write to President Obama will also go to you. Just because the president calls himself a Democrat does not give him a free pass. He, and you, have lost your way. We have become a nation of terrorists at home and abroad and it is your responsibility to change this.
