Dear Mr. President,
I read this morning where the EPA has decided to delay tougher emission standards for a couple years. Another disappointment, another campaign promise broken. There seems to be a serious disconnect here between you and the public when it comes to your campaign promises. At your “angry” press conference the other day - the one where you got angry at the people who elected you president - you claimed you’ve fulfilled every one of your campaign promises. I been thinking that one over for a few days and no matter how I cut it, I just don’t see it. I know you probably believe you have, but from where I’m sitting, it sure doesn’t look that way. Guantanamo’s still open for business, the immoral war in Iraq is still going on, you’ve expanded the war in Afghanistan, you caved in on single payer health care, extended the Bush tax cuts for millionaires, and now you’re extending the Bush-era lax emission rules. Just a few of the many important campaign promises you’ve broken. Not to mention the cynical and brazen hypocrisy of shutting down freedom of information, the most basic pillar of democracy, by persecuting Julian Assange and WikiLeaks. Sarah Palin calls him an “anti-American operative with blood on his hands” and Mike Huckabee said he should be executed. I expect this from Republican wack-os, but Clinton and Gates said his arrest on unrelated charges was “good news” and your administration’s fingerprints are all over the coordinated effort to muzzle WikiLeaks, even though they, and Mr. Assange, have not been charged with a single crime in the U.S. yet. But then, we should know by now to never underestimate the hypocrisy and viciousness of American politicians. And I guess that circles back to the main topic this morning, caving in on emissions. Whatever happened to your commitment to fight global warming? Sounds like just another broken campaign promise to me, Mr. President.
