Dear Mr. President,
I’m still plenty pissed at your sellout on the Republican tax cuts for millionaires but something else is on my mind today, WikiLeaks and your administration’s orchestrated persecution of Julian Assange. In the paper the other day your Attorney General, Eric Holder, in talking about WikiLeaks’ release of all those secret diplomatic cables, made this statement: “I authorized just last week a number of things to be done so that we can hopefully get to the bottom of this and hold people accountable.” I find this incredibly cynical and hypocritical. What about holding Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld and Yoo accountable for war crimes? What about the bankers and Wall Street tycoons who caused the financial crisis? Boy, talk about a double standard of justice. Your pit bulls at the Justice Department have been trying to figure out how to indict Mr. Assange since July and still haven’t come up with anything so you’re pressuring Amazon, Paypal, Mastercard, the Swedes, the Brits, everyone you can, to cut off access to the web, to financial institutions, trying to shut them up and down, trying to prevent the American people from knowing the truth about their government. Where was all this energy and focus and righteous dedication when it came to holding the real criminals and traitors accountable? Do you ever bother to wonder why people have lost faith in their government? Not hard to see from down here in the trenches, Mr. President.
